MANILA, Philippines — A Pasig City court denied the Senate panel on women’s request for former Bamban mayor Alice Guo to attend its probe scheduled for Tuesday.

Presiding Judge Annielyn Medes-Cabelis of Regional Trial Court Branch 167, in an order dated November 20, cited a scheduling conflict as the reason for the denial.

“[The request of the Senate panel on women] cannot be granted considering that there is a scheduled hearing on November 26, 2024 at 8:30 o’clock in the morning concerning the cases to which these accused are charged with,” the order read.

Senator Risa Hontiveros earlier said her panel aims to conclude its investigation into illegal Philippine offshore gaming operators (Pogos) on Tuesday.

Hontiveros also confirmed receiving additional details about the presence of Chinese spies in the Philippines, vowing to reveal the information during the final Pogo probe.

“May bagong impormasyon po tayong nakalap, lalo na sa pagkakaroon ng mga espiya ng Tsina dito sa Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng mga Pogo,” Hontiveros  told reporters.

(We have obtained new information, especially on the existence of Chinese spies in the Philippines through Pogo.)
