LUCENA CITY — Classes in public and private schools in Cavite province on Monday, November 18, are suspended due to the possible adverse effects of Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi).

“Due to the anticipated impact of typhoon Pepito, classes at all levels in public and private schools throughout Cavite are suspended tomorrow, Monday, November 18, 2024,” Governor Athena Tolentino said in a post on her Facebook page on Sunday, Nov. 17.

Tolentino added: “Stay safe and alert for possible heavy rains and strong winds. Make sure your pets are in a secure place with enough food and water.”

She also asked the public to prepare an emergency kit and always monitor updates from their local government unit for the latest announcements on Pepito.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its latest bulletin at 11 a.m., said Pepito was last located at 120 kilometers east southeast of Baler, Aurora with maximum sustained winds of 185 kph and gustiness of up to 230 kph.

Metro Manila and various parts of Luzon are at a “high risk” of storm surge within the next 48 hours due to Pepito, the state weather bureau warned on Sunday morning.

Pagasa advised residents in low-lying coastal communities to stay away from the coast or beach, cancel all marine activities, and move to higher grounds away from the coast and storm surge-prone areas.
